Le migliori canzoni della storia del rock: si cerca spesso di fare graduatorie. Un compito arduo e, a mio parere, perfettamente inutile, in quanto la musica, come ogni forma d’arte, è solo parzialmente valutabile secondo criteri oggettivi, ma dipende per gran parte da criteri soggettivi. Può essere, ad esempio, che un appassionato di rock, in base ai momenti o ai periodi della propria vita, prediliga un genere o un autore/interprete piuttosto che altri. E poi quanti rivoli ha avuto il fiume del rock? Una canzone folk o una canzone soul è anche un po’ rock? E il pop elettronico degli anni ’80 ha elementi che lo legano al rock in senso lato? Per questo motivo in questo articolo non stilerò una graduatoria, ma semplicemente quelli che per i miei criteri di valutazione e per i miei elementi soggettivi sono le migliori canzoni della storia del rock. Le metto in ordine puramente alfabetico proprio per non esprimere una graduatoria.

Alcune indicazioni

  • Essendo fan di Bruce Springsteen potrei indicare numerose canzoni del Boss, ma ovviamente, per essere obiettivo, né indicherò solo alcune tra quelle che ritengo davvero fondamentali tra le migliori canzoni della storia del rock
  • Inevitabilmente nell’elenco emergono le mie particolari preferenze. Amo il rock in tante forme, ma in particolare amo gli strumenti musicali tradizionali, mentre non amo l’elettronica e i suoni campionati. Sono meno appassionato di alcuni generi, tra cui il Heavy Metal, ma non posso ignorare alcune grandi canzoni di questo genere. L’Alternative Rock, il Progressive Rock, il Punk Rock e il Grunge mi piacciono, ma senza strapparmi le vesti. Il Pop elettronico anni ’80 sì, ma con molta cautela. Praticamente zero dal Rap in qua, verso i nostri giorni
  • Ho una decisa predilezione per il cantautorato e per chi scrive canzoni, più che per gli interpreti. Con poche eccezioni (su tutti il Re e la Regina, Elvis Presley e Aretha Franklyn) indicherò canzoni scritte da chi le suona e le interpreta
  • Non ho messo nulla di italiano. Non perché pensi che nessun artista italiano meriti di stare nell’elenco. Anzi, l’Italia ha espresso canzoni eccellenti nel rock e nei generi collaterali. Però mi è risultato difficile inserirle in questa lista, andando a toglierne altre. Vorrà dire che ne proporrò una ad hoc per le canzoni italiane
